and polystyrene offer little combustion
potential. The Phoenix ICF uses a modified
polystyrene bead that includes a flame retardant
to improve the fire resistance properties of the
form.
Because of this, the form performs extremely well
in tests conducted in accordance with the
Surface Burn Test Standard, ASTM E84. In
July 2003, ASTM E84 testing was performed on a
Phoenix ICF by an independent testing lab,
demonstrating a flame spread index of Zero (0),
and a smoke developed index of 15.
Initial audits of Phoenix manufacturing plants by
an independent audit agency have also determined
that the Phoenix blocks conform to UL Surface
Burn Standards established for the polystyrene
bead suppliers from which the form is
manufactured.
Phoenix forms have also been successfully tested
by an independent testing lab for conformance of
polypropylene ties and fasteners with fire
resistance requirements of UL1715, Corner Burn
Tests.
